The highlight of the Dawlish and Teignmouth Camera Club’s calendar – the Image of the Year competition – was again judged by Ian Bateman, Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society and member of the Exmouth Photo Group. This is where members have the opportunity to put forward their favourite images – either previous competition winners or new work.
Ian had the unenviable task of critiquing prints and digitally projected images in the monochrome and colour categories, with subject matters ranging from wildlife to street photography and from coastal sunsets to wintry scenes. He provided individual feedback on each image praising creativity and composition, as well as offering advice on how to improve an image through cropping or post processing, where appropriate. In his good-humoured way, Ian explained that all comments were just his opinion and that the secret behind a good photo is for it to tell a story.
