Members of Dawlish and Teignmouth camera club enjoyed a special treat when David Shawe paid a visit to talk about his black and white and infrared photography.
David, who is a keen member of Kingsbridge and District Camera Club has a passion for shooting landscapes and creating beautiful images from ordinary scenes, often while out and about in all weathers.
He is inspired by open spaces, the atmospheric beauty and raw grandeur of nature.
He believes mood an inspiration go hand in hand and that spending time outdoors allows a slower pace in which to become more thoughtful and creative with photography. Small and abstract details of grasses and plants featured in his images as well as beautiful overarching shapes within the landscape. He talked much about why he loves to shoot in black and white as an effective way of emphasising textures and shapes and encouraged club members to try new approaches and to not be daunted by bad weather. The talked included an interesting group discussion on colour versus black and white and why photographers would choose one over the other.
He is an avid traveller specialising in photography in far flung places such as Iceland, Scotland and Norway as well as travelling locally around the UK - Dorset, Hampshire and Dartmoor to name a few.
Among his many stunning images club members were treated to inspiring photographs of trees, forests and landscapes including some old wooden outbuildings and boats - concentrating on the textures and weathering of the wood.
He also explained what infrared photography is and how it works. His infrared images produced some interesting effects, turning the ordinary into spectacular and the spectacular into something truly amazing.
Stuart Henchie thanked David for an inspiring evening.
